We are seeking an additional reliable and friendly front desk associate/receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for clients. This role will start as part-time, with growth to a full-time at our Dayton/Centerville Locations.

Key job responsibilities:

• Greet clients and visitors in a respectful, calm, and welcoming manner
• Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage calendars
• Verify client information and assist with intake paperwork
• Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Process payments, handle basic billing inquiries, and collect co-pays
• Communicate with clinicians and administrative staff as needed
• Maintain a clean, organized front desk and waiting area
• Assist with general administrative tasks and record management

In our ongoing efforts to support the mental health of our patients, their families, and our community, we will continue sharing resources. At Riverscape Counseling, our role is not only to diagnose and treat. We are caretakers of our patients’ narratives, creating space to explore, process, and make meaning of what impacts their lives.

Trauma doesn’t always come from one catastrophic event. It can develop through loss, instability, neglect, chronic stress, or experiences that overwhelm a young person’s sense of safety.

We’re sharing this visual as a resource to help caregivers, parents, and families better recognize how trauma can show up, and to remind people that these responses are understandable and treatable. Having a definition for trauma and understanding its causes and symptoms can make future treatment decisions easier.

After spotting this mental health-inspired story strip, we began thinking about how often we have conversations with patients about emotions. These conversations often include noticing, identifying, naming, and even labeling emotions as “positive” or “negative.” Different therapeutic approaches vary in how they conceptualize and work with emotions, but across frameworks, emotions are understood as essential to the human experience. Emotions provide vital information and are inextricable from how we process our internal and external worlds.

This strip highlights the usefulness of so-called “negative” emotions and the potential harm of suppressing them. When emotions are neglected or buried, they can accumulate and contribute to depression, anxiety or panic, resentment or rage, and even chronic health concerns. While these emotions can feel uncomfortable or distressing, exploring them with the right provider can make the process feel less overwhelming and more manageable.

Something to think about: Do you ever find yourself suppressing uncomfortable emotions? Do you ever return to them later for processing and understanding? If this feels challenging, therapy can be a supportive space to learn how to approach, tolerate, and make sense of your emotional experience.

When we saw this comic, its simplicity stood out. It made us think about how often people underestimate the extent to which feeling overwhelmed, feeling down, or feeling anxious is actually normative. Not every reaction to distress is maladaptive or abnormal.

If someone close to you passes away and you feel sad, upset, or notice those feelings lingering longer than you expected, that can be entirely normative. You may benefit from talking with someone to help process those emotions, but sadness itself is not a problem. It can come in waves. The same is true for anxiety, worry, and feeling overwhelmed. What often matters more than the feeling itself is how it’s managed and whether it becomes a persistent pattern. If distress is constant, intense, frequent, and long-lasting, that may be a sign something more is going on and worth paying attention to.

We want to normalize that not everything we think or feel will be pleasant. Feeling distressed does not mean something is “wrong” with you. At the same time, there is always space to seek support, whether that’s talking with a therapist or reaching out to trusted friends and family. It’s okay to not be okay, and it’s also okay to ask for help.

As dangerously cold weather impacts the Miami Valley, and neighboring regions, it is important that we share life-saving information about warming centers in Montgomery, Greene, and nearby counties. Warming centers are short-term emergency shelters where individuals can find refuge from freezing temperatures and avoid serious health risks such as hypothermia and frostbite. These services are available to everyone in need, and they are especially crucial for people with unstable housing who may not have regular access to heat or reliable communications.
